Brandon Drespling

President & Chief Compliance Officer, Triumph Capital Management
Where things stand
  • President and CCO; reviews and signs everything JT prepares for compliance and countersigns the daily custodian packages.
  • Zakir: on 2026-09-11, the day Derek had promised the clients a document package, Brandon emailed them instead that the internal review is complete and asked for a call. No package, no figure, no reply from the clients by the end of the window. JT's side is finished and filed: reconciliation site, matter folder, 2026 timeline, and an AppRiver export back to 2016 showing no email ever stated 1% or 1.25% before 2026.
  • Still owed as CCO: the credit decision and the complaint-register entry; both now sit behind a call he is waiting for the clients to take.
  • Kephart solicitor due diligence: assigned 2026-09-09, submitted and approved by him 2026-09-12, eleven days inside his own target; cleared to continue, with two in-house file items left for remediation and no owner named.
  • The Market & Economic Review deck is now a rolling product: he sends charts and Fed quotes in the evening, JT ships a versioned update to a dated Box folder under his TCM Firm File the same night, and he presents it to clients (used 2026-09-11; Monday 2026-09-14 with "fisher").

Focused on

  • Getting the Zakirs on the phone: emailed them that the review is complete and proposed a call the same day or next week; read their silence as unwillingness to engage. record · Teams
  • The Market & Economic Review deck as a live client tool: presented it 2026-09-11 ("Clients love the data"), fed JT a rolling 10-year bond chart, two more images and three Fed/CPI lines for the next version, and will present again Monday 2026-09-14. record
  • Closing the compliance file on Jessica Kephart, a solicitor who is already active on accounts. record
  • The bond section of a deck: he sent a slide he wants added to the layout there, which JT endorsed. The slide itself is not retrievable through the connector. record
  • Getting his own new Zoom phone working around a full afternoon of client meetings — voicemail greeting first, then the mailbox PIN. record
  • Getting the Zakir complaint record filed correctly under the compliance structure, and getting the firm's acknowledgment to the clients out in his own name as CCO. record · email
  • Adding YTD realized capital gain/loss visibility to the Fiduciary Oversight Report, and clearing stale ex-Kolker Fidelity accounts out of Black Diamond. record
  • Whether the Zakir paper trail holds rather than what the credit should be: he traced the agreements back to the 2015 DB-plan account, confirmed nothing is missing, and located the ambiguity in the MAP language. record
  • The compliance change log and Manual updates (AI portion) waiting for his review; he will take them 2026-09-04 or over the weekend. record
  • The disclosure language on the daily Options Report notification, at JT's request. record
  • The Enkodia AI pitch deck (14 slides, draft) a contact shared with him; he wants JT's read before he responds. Brandon-Note v4
  • Zakir fee reconciliation v2 pending his CCO review: billing matched the signed agreements (2% / 2.2% / 1%), memo is COMPLIANT - WITH NOTES, and the decision is whether to extend a credit and on which basis (scenarios from $1,034 to $40,124) plus the complaint-register entry and his direct contact with the clients. (corrected 2026-09-03 by JT) Zakir Record README
  • Compliance Manual and Supplement updates being finalized with JT; the Portal trainings match them and the 2026 changes. E:\Desktop\derek.md
  • Fee accuracy on Dan Mayer's Canvas book: conversions changed the TCM fee without re-triggering the no-fee-schedule check, so Black Diamond fees may be wrong; he wants it run as a special fee audit. record
  • The IAR state registration project, worked with JT by call on 2026-06-08 and 2026-06-11; his tracker is "IAR State Registration Project.xlsx". record · record
  • The Fiduciary Oversight Report as his daily working file ("Let me get a fresh one"); Brian Stark's Fidelity TTAMP accounts allocated by hand from the MAP; iRebal settings unusable, calling the vendor. record

Concerns and frustrations

  • Resigned to the Zakirs not engaging: "It doesn't look like they're going to respond to me anyways..." and, later, "no response..." record
  • Market, not work: the Fed is repeating 2021 ("Wrong then. Wrong now. Huge policy error.") and "bonds have been getting smacked hard." He wants that argument in the client deck. record
  • Skeptical of the Enkodia token-cost slide before JT's review confirmed it was wrong ("You were right to flag it"). Enkodia review
  • JT's read: Brandon was likely puzzled by the "automatically deleted from Downloads" explanation for the missing PowerPoint ("If I was you I'd be like wtf is he talking about"). Brandon-Note v4
  • Under the weather; left the office mid-morning and pushed the review to the next day or the weekend. record
  • "iRebal settings are so messed up that I can't even use it at this point." record
  • The IAR state registration site: "seriously, so annoying"; it never asked him to pay the Texas fee. record
  • Fees in Black Diamond on Dan Mayer's Canvas accounts "may be incorrect". record

Doable vs. not doable

  • A rolling, versioned Market & Economic Review deck → doable and now housed; the cost is JT's evening each time he sends new material. record
  • The Zakir document package Derek promised for 2026-09-11 → needs a decision (his and Derek's) on whether it still goes and when; JT's inputs are complete. record
  • Kephart due diligence → doable and routine; the only wrinkle is that she is active before the review, which the submission should say. record
  • Cancelling the old phone contract and getting a return shipping address → doable, and he took it, but for 2026-09-09 rather than the same day Chad asked for. record
  • Supplying his voicemail PIN → not doable by JT; system-generated and visible only in his own Zoom settings. record
  • Fiduciary Report YTD realized gain/loss column → doable, and he set the pace himself ("whenever this week"), so it does not need to jump the queue. record
  • Formal Compliance Submission on the Zakir matter → deferred by him, not declined: "once it's all done and settled." The folder filing happens now, the submission after resolution. record
  • Zakir documentation → holds. Five signed client agreements back to the 2015 DB-plan account, nothing missing, billing matched the papers. The exposure is not a billing error but the pre-2026 MAP language, which did not say which accounts an agreement governed, so a client could sign the 2023 agreement believing it superseded the earlier MAPs across all accounts. record
  • Enkodia, JT's read: the problem is real (invented citations, files staying in-house); the product as pitched is not underwritable (0% hallucination claim, cost slide wrong and inconsistent with itself, TAM math error, no UI or MVP, one technical point of failure, no third-party test). JT holds roughly a 20% chance he is wrong. Enkodia review · Brandon-Note v4
  • Black Diamond versus MAP fee reconciliation for Dan Mayer's Canvas accounts → doable the same day from a full Black Diamond pull; the corrections need his per-account decision. record
  • Fidelity model allocations for Stark's four accounts → doable manually from the TTAMP MAP; no Fidelity model or custom field needed. record

How to work with them

  • Delegates format and location decisions outright ("You pick", "Wherever") and then adopts what JT builds without revision. Propose the structure; do not ask him to choose. record
  • Sends deck material late in the evening in bursts (images, quoted lines, one-line reactions) and expects it to appear in the next version; he does not write the slide himself. record
  • Assigns compliance work with a stated window ("next week or two") and a Box destination in the same message, then edits the message later (this one was modified 2026-09-11) — re-read the original before acting. record
  • He says plainly when he cannot take something on rather than accepting and slipping: "I can't today, but tomorrow can," followed by exactly why. A deferral from him is reliable; treat it as scheduled, not dropped. record
  • He states his own deadline when a request is not urgent ("Don't need it now... Just whenever this week"). Take him at his word rather than treating every ask as same-day. record
  • He decides filing structure out loud and expects it followed; he named the exact Box complaint path unprompted. Ask him where something files rather than choosing. record
  • He is the right first reader for anything client-facing on a compliance matter: JT sent him the Zakir analysis before Derek and got both a confirmation and the MAP-language explanation that the analysis alone did not surface. Route it past him first by default. record
  • He knows the document history from memory and will supply it faster than a search will ("What is the oldest one dated you have?" → the 2015 DB plan). Ask him before spending time hunting Box. record
  • He defers client contact to the IAR's response even when he is the named CCO contact ("going to wait and see what Derek puts together"). If a written commitment to the client depends on him reaching out, say so explicitly rather than assuming he will move first. record
  • JT writes the long overlay for his own benefit and puts a "short version" at the bottom for Brandon, flagging the long part as optional ("skim to the short version at the bottom"). Brandon-Note v4
  • JT separates what Brandon should say out loud from what stays in his pocket, and gives him a safe default line ("I had JT look at it") rather than playing AI guru. Brandon-Note v4
  • Quick mentions happen on Teams ("mentioned the other day on Teams"); the considered response goes as a written note. Brandon-Note v4
  • When he is out he says so and names when he will pick things up ("tomorrow or this weekend"); plan around it rather than re-ping. record
  • He deletes and resends when a spreadsheet changes; the deleted message leaves no trace, so the resend is the record. record
  • Prefers the manual path when the count is small ("I would just do those 4 manually"); offer automation only where the volume justifies it. record
  • Working sessions are set up by short Teams pings and then a call ("call ya in 5", "Call ya in 10-15?"); the substance is on the call, so the chat shows only the outcome. record · record

Crossover

  • touches Rob and Raya Zakir and Derek Eichenwald: his "review complete, let's talk" email went out on Derek's promised package date with Derek copied and out of office; the package itself did not go. record
  • touches Jamar Anderson: the DocuSign send date (2026-04-20, on Derek's instruction) that JT put back into the timeline was confirmed by Jamar. record
  • touches Jessica Kephart (not tracked; solicitor, role otherwise not on file): subject of the due-diligence assignment. record
  • touches Chad Burnham: Brandon put the same voicemail PIN question to JT on Teams and to Chad by email within two hours; Chad's answer closed it. The old phone contract Chad wants cancelled is Brandon's action for 2026-09-09. record
  • touches the Zakirs and Derek Eichenwald: Brandon wrote to Raya and Rob himself as CCO, copying JT and Derek, which satisfies the promise Derek made the clients on 2026-09-03. Derek still owns the 2026-09-11 package and the 2026-10-02 reconciliation. record
  • touches Jared Thompson: JT sent Brandon a relationship check on the Thompson account — correspondence timeline, Redtail, meetings, MAP, a year of trading — flagged as a fast run with the Black Diamond equity bands not right and not to be sent anywhere. record
  • touches Christopher Kolker and Mike Knoebel: the August management-fee sheet columns they asked for, and the stale ex-Kolker Fidelity accounts closed in Black Diamond. record
  • touches Derek Eichenwald and the Zakirs: JT ran the fee reconstruction past Brandon before Derek saw it; Brandon confirmed it, named the Box filing path, and is holding his own client contact until Derek's response is drafted. record
  • touches Enkodia: the deck came to Brandon from a contact whose intent is unknown (wants Brandon's AI fluency, wants a business read, or is courting a check); JT told Brandon to treat those as three different conversations. Brandon-Note v4
  • touches Derek Eichenwald: the Zakir fee matter is Derek's account as IAR; Brandon reviews the reconciliation as CCO. Zakir Record README
  • touches Derek Eichenwald: the Manual and Supplement updates and the Portal training rollout Derek's decisions gate. E:\Desktop\derek.md
  • touches Derek Eichenwald and the Zakirs: Derek's written reply names him as CCO with his phone number, says the complaint is being formally logged, and promises he will contact the clients directly. record
  • touches Jamar Anderson: Jamar flagged Nydia Retirement Solutions' resignation as TPA for three 401(k) plans (including the firm's own) to him and JT; the 2025 Form 5500 is due 2026-10-15 with extension. record
  • touches Jamar and Derek: JT shared the Zakir Record folder in their group chat. record
  • touches Dan Mayer: the Canvas/Smartleaf fee check and the BD Fee Clean Up workbook on Dan's accounts. record
  • touches Brent McGibbon: "Looks like Brent is registered in TX" during the state registration session. record
  • touches Brian Stark: his Fidelity TTAMP accounts wired into the Fiduciary Oversight Report by the TTAMP field. record

Decisions log

  • As CCO: approved the Kephart solicitor due-diligence submission the same evening it was sent to him; archived as a compliance record to JT, Derek and the compliance mailbox. record
  • As CCO: the Firm's next step with the Zakirs is a call, proposed by email; the written package is not sent. record
  • Agreed the Market & Economic Review deck lives in a dated-folder log under his TCM Firm File › Reports & Resources, with a change summary per version. record
  • Jessica Kephart is active as a solicitor now; compliance due diligence follows within two weeks. record
  • Rescheduled the MBTC Security Benefit Monthly Committee Meeting (October Allocation), cancelling the prior slot with the single word "Rescheduled" and reissuing for 2026-09-29 at 12:00 PM ET; JT accepted the same day. series
  • Deferred the old phone contract cancellation to 2026-09-09 rather than fit it into a day of client meetings. record
  • The CCO contacts the Zakirs directly, in writing, rather than waiting further on Derek's response. record
  • The entire Zakir complaint review files to the 2026 Q3 client-complaint folder in addition to the client file. record
  • A formal Compliance Submission on the Zakir matter waits until the matter is resolved. record
  • The unlinked ex-Kolker Fidelity accounts are marked closed in Black Diamond. record
  • The Zakir fee record is clean and the agreements support what was billed; the gap is client understanding, not documentation. record
  • No direct client call yet; he waits for Derek's response first. record
  • The Zakir fee reconciliation material files under Box\Triumph Capital Representatives\Derek Eichenwald\Client Files\Zakir_Raya_Rob, not a Branch Files or RIA path. record
  • Review of the change log and manual updates moves to 2026-09-04 or the weekend. record
  • The Mayer Canvas fee check is run as a special fee audit; JT builds the comparison from a full Black Diamond pull rather than hand-filling column J. record
  • Stark's four Fidelity accounts are allocated manually from the TTAMP MAP; Fidelity accounts pull by the TTAMP field, Schwab by rep code. record
